M2 PRESSWIRE-1 October 1998-USPS: Postal Service awards $89.4 million letter sorting, tracking contract to Siemens (C)1994-98 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:290998 WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Postal Service awarded an $89.4 million contract to Siemens ElectroCom of Arlington, Texas, for Identification Code Sort/Code Track (IDCS/CT) hardware and software upgrades to its automated letter sorting equipment.

"IDCS/CT will sort and track letter mail and help postal managers diagnose service problems," said Engineering Vice President Bill Dowling. Currently, Dowling explained, the Postal Service puts two barcodes on letter mail that does not have barcodes pre-applied by volume mailers.
