M2 PRESSWIRE-7 December 1998-ACA: ACA considers prohibiting mobile phone jammers (C)1994-98 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:021298 The Australian Communications Authority (ACA) is considering declaring mobile phone jammers as prohibited devices under the Radiocommunications Act 1992 (the Act).
Prohibition would make it an offence to operate or supply, or possess for the purpose of operation or supply, such a device without reasonable excuse. This is not a step that the ACA is taking lightly. If mobile phone jammers are declared prohibited, it will be the first time that a device has been dealt with in this way.
