M2 PRESSWIRE-24 March 1999-ATA: January cargo traffic declines (C)1994-99 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:220399 * Total cargo carried decreased 5.7 percent Washington, DC -- The Air Transport Association (ATA) announced today that cargo traffic decreased 5.7 percent in January, when compared to the same month last year.

International cargo decreased most significantly, when it fell 7.3 percent. Domestic cargo performance was also weak, declining 4.5 percent. Cargo traffic includes mail, freight and express. System-wide freight and express cargo declined 5.1 percent in January. Domestic freight and express declined 3.3 percent and international decreased 7.1 percent.
