M2 PRESSWIRE-2 April 1999-CHANNEL TUNNEL RAIL LINK: Last of main civils contracts awarded for CTRL (C)1994-99 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:060499 Union Rails South announced today Balfour Beatty Major Projects as the successful contractor for East Kent, the last civil engineering contract on Section 1 of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL).

Known as Contract 440 and worth around [pound]75 million this contract is for the construction of 16 kilometres of the CTRL between the village of Sevington, east of Ashford and the Channel Tunnel terminal at Cheriton. For most of the section, the CTRL runs alongside the existing Ashford - Folkestone railway.
