M2 PRESSWIRE-30 June 1999-ACA: ACA to renew MDS licences (C)1994-99 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:290699 The Australian Communications Authority (ACA) today announced that it had decided to renew Multipoint Distribution System (MDS) licences for a further period. This follows consultation on the discussion paper Future Uses of the Multipoint Distribution System (MDS) Bands, released by the ACA in March 1999.

The ACA has, however, decided that it will only renew some of the MDS licences (in the MDS A Band, between 2076 - 2111 MHz) for a period up to three years (up to July 2002). Licences in the MDS B Band (2300 - 2400 MHz) will be renewed for a period up to five years (up to July 2004). MDS licences are mainly used for the provision of pay television...
