M2 PRESSWIRE-23 July 1999-USDA: USDA announces special import quota #22 for upland cotton (C)1994-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:220799 WASHINGTON -- Keith Kelly, Executive Vice President of USDA's Commodity Credit Corporation, today announced a special import quota for upland cotton that permits importation of a quantity of upland cotton equal to one week's domestic mill use.
The quota will be established on July 29, 1999, allowing importation of 42,388,357 kilograms (194,688 bales) of upland cotton. This action is being carried out under the authority of section 136(b) of the Federal Agriculture Improvement and Reform Act of 1996, which requires that a special import quota be determined and announced immediately if, for any consecutive 10-week...
