M2 PRESSWIRE-30 July 1999-ACA: ACA preliminary assessment of Telstra's $1.8b Universal Service Obligation claim (C)1994-99 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:300799 The Australian Communications Authority (ACA) today announced that it had reached a preliminary view on its assessment of Telstra's $1.8 billion claim for providing the Universal Service Obligation (USO) in 1997 - 98.
The ACA has assessed the amount at $580,208,911. The preliminary assessment was based on an ACA Determination made in September 1998 setting out the methodology for calculating the net universal service cost (NUSC).
