M2 PRESSWIRE-18 August 1999-LI & FUNG: Li & Fung reports strong profit growth (C)1994-99 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:180899 * Two for One Share Split Proposed Hong Kong -- For the six months ended 30th June 1999, Li & Fung Limited, the Hong Kong-based multinational export trading group, achieved a profit attributable to shareholders of HK$193 million, representing an increase of 23 over the corresponding period in 1998.

The Group's turnover rose by 8.5 to HK$6.6 billion. Earnings per share increased by 21 to 30.2 cents. The Group will pay an interim dividend of 18 cents per share compared with 15 cents for the same period in 1998.
