M2 PRESSWIRE-12 June 2000-ATA: Airline ticket prices rise modestly in April (C)1994-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:09062000 Washington, DC -- The Air Transport Association (ATA) Office of Economics reports that airline ticket prices increased in April as a result of rising fuel costs.

Average fares increased 2.4 percent in April, or $3.35, over the average price a year ago. Coach fares were up 1.8 percent or $2.21; and first-class fares increased 4.0 percent, or $12.82, during April. "Throughout much of 1999, passengers enjoyed lower airline ticket prices," said ATA Chief Economist David A. Swierenga. "Fuel prices have continued to increase throughout this year, so airfares are reflecting this increase in airline costs." The report, released...
