M2 PRESSWIRE-21 December 2000-UK Government: EU export ban on pigs lifted (C)1994-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:21122000 East Anglia's pig breeders are able to export to other EU countries once again after the ban imposed by the European Commission was lifted at midnight last night (20 December).

On 14 August this year the European Commission imposed a ban on exports of live pigs (and pig semen, ova and embryos) from Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex to other EU Member States. In October, the ban on exports from Essex was lifted but the ban on exports from Suffolk and Norfolk remained in place.
