M2 PRESSWIRE-17 April 2002-UK Government: 12 year old boy on raft has lucky escape (C)1994-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:16042002 A 12-year old boy was almost swept out to sea this afternoon on a home made raft comprising of six large water bottles. Aberdeen Coastguard were called at 4.30 pm this afternoon from a public phone box near the beach between Port Gordon and Buckpool by the boy's father who reported that his son was rapidly being swept away from the shore on the raft.
The raft was normally tethered to the shoreline by a rope but on this particular occasion it was not and the boy was swept 400 yards out to sea within minutes. Matthew Mace, Aberdeen Coastguard Watch Manager reported: "Once we had received the 999 call we were able to...
