M2 PRESSWIRE-20 May 2002-UK Government: Fire contained on board ferry (C)1994-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:05182002 The fire which began in the engine room of a Danish ferry is now contained and isolated. The master of the Princess of Scandinavia requested assistance from Aberdeen Coastguard at 9.50 pm this evening.

The fire had started between two engine rooms and spread to the funnel. Attempts are now being made by the crew to re-start two of the four engines on board. Three Norwegian helicopters are now on scene and RAF and Navy helicopters have been sent back for re-fuelling. An RAF Nimrod is providing top cover.
