M2 PRESSWIRE-30 November 2006-UK Government: Study into seafarers' fatigue - research report published(C)1994-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD RDATE:30112006 The Maritime and Coastguard Agency today published the report of research on Seafarers' Fatigue conducted on behalf of the Agency and the Health and Safety Executive by Professor Andy Smith, Centre for Occupational and Health Psychology, Cardiff University.
The research was also supported by Nautilus UK and the Seafarers' International Research Centre in Cardiff. The research findings add to the view that fatigue at sea is a significant safety issue, and that many seafarers are working hours in excess of the working time limits, and under-recording hours of work.
