Pepco, BGE merger one step closer The proposed merger of Potomac Electric Power Co. and Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. cleared another hurdle as the Federal Trade Commission notified the companies that the waiting period required under the Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust act had ended. The two utilities already received approval for the merger from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Virginia State Corporation Commission.

The merged entity, to be called Constellation Energy Corp., is expected to begin operating this spring.
