Byline: Betsy Pisik, THE WASHINGTON TIMES A dozen U.N. food trucks entered the Gaza Strip yesterday, the first wave of desperately needed humanitarian goods to arrive in the territory since the Hamas-Fatah firefights erupted June 11. The 51 metric tons of sugar, vegetable oil and medical supplies moved through Gaza's southern crossing with Israel under the watch of the Israeli army.
A Red Cross ambulance separately evacuated six gravely ill patients for treatment in Israeli hospitals. About 80 percent of Gazans require some food assistance, according to the U.N. agency that cares for them, and the poverty rate is even higher.
