Double run data release throws up FT as the worst

Grocer, April 1, 2000

All sides of the newstrade have welcomed the release of data on wholesaler double runs as a further move towards transparency in the industry.

The data -- collected by the Association of Newspaper & Magazine Wholesalers -- shows the number of double runs caused by late arrival at depots by national newspaper publishers.

February's figures were the first to be made public by the ANMW. The double run data is a foretaste of the type of information which will be widely available when the National Distribution Monitor system is fully up and running.

The new figures showed that a total of 7,998 double runs were caused by publisher lateness in February, down from just over 9,000 in January.

The Financial Times generated most double runs in February, a situation head of circulation Martin Ashford said the newspaper was working hard to rectify.
