Shoppers bag discount for recycling

Grocer, April 26, 2008

> QUINCY, MASSACHUSETTS: US supermarket chain Stop & Shop has become the latest retailer to announce an initiative designed to reduce the use of plastic bags. From now on the retailer will discount five cents for every bag shoppers bring from home. Whole Foods Market recently banned plastic bags from its stores, providing paper bogs as an alternative and encouraging shoppers to bring their own bags.
