Here comes the reformed sandwich

Grocer, June 28, 2008

Anyone fancy a 'reformed' sandwich? Descriptions such as 'traditional', 'roast' and 'smoked' to describe meat in sandwiches will be blacklisted if Lacors gets its way--and replaced by 'reformed' and 'processed'.

The British Sandwich Association says the local authority regulator's recommendations for more detailed product descriptions are "misleading" and "confusing"--and Lacors never asked its opinion. "If Lacors is going to insist on such labelling it has to apply it to all packaged foods," said BSA chairman Jim Winship.

The BSA is to meet stakeholders and advisers to protest.
