PTF names Stanton as new chair

Grocer, July 26, 2008

The Provision Trade Federation has elected Tony Stanton as its new chairman and Nick Hilton as vice chair.

Stanton was formerly vice chair of the body, which represents companies trading in provisions, particularly meat and dairy products. He replaces John Brooks, whose term ended recently.

Stanton is also MD of supermarket bacon supplier Direct Table Foods, having joined in 1974. He became MD in 1997 and helped the firm become the UK's third-largest producer of bacon.

Hilton, meanwhile, has been MD of Fayrefield Foods, owner of Powerful Welsh Cheddar, for 20 years.

"Their companies epitomise the modem PTF member, combining traditional trading in cured meat and dairy products with innovation and timely development of new varieties," said FIT director general Clare Cheney.
