New Western White House? We locals overlook the fact that the presumptive heir to the Republican presidential nomination John McCain and his wife, Cindy, own beachfront property locally in the form of two condos in Coronado, the first a three-bedroom unit right on the Pacific next to the Hotel del Coronado purchased in 2004.

The second, a four-bedroom unit, was purchased in February for $2.1 million. So, it's not out of the realm that McCain could set up his vacation retreat here with a successful run for the Oval Office. By the way, Mrs. McCain got a deal on her condo, sources said. It was originally listed at $2.9 million. Still, she paid a record $1,500 a square foot, according to the Wall Street Journal
