MMC works on energetic proposal
San Diego Business Journal, Oct 15, 2007 by Mike Allen
The California Energy Commission, the state's primary energy policy and planning agency, has accepted an application from MMC Energy Inc. for an upgrade of an existing power plant here.
The acceptance of the application formally launches the power plant's site certification process, which is expected to take about a year, MMC says.
Under the plan, the plant would receive two new combustion engines to increase its capacity to 100 megawatts from 44 megawatts. Construction on the project is expected to begin in late 2008, with completion set for June 2009, according to MMC, a New York-based company that acquires and manages electricity generating and energy infrastructure-related assets. Its stock trades under the symbol MMCE on Nasdaq.
City officials have announced their desire to decommission another power plant on the bay front that has a capacity of about 700 megawatts.
