A Vandenberg stopover

San Diego Business Journal, Oct 28, 2002 by Brad Graves

Poway-based SpaceDev has announced its CHIPSat microsatellite passed vibration and environmental tests at the Air Force research lab in Albuquerque, N.M., and is being readied for a Dec. 19 launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base. The 99-pound satellite was designed and built for UC Berkeley under a $6.8 million NASA contract. It's the secondary payload on the Boeing Delta II rocket.

SpaceDev bills CHIPSat as "the first mission ever to use end-to-end satellite operations over the Internet with TCP/IP and FTP." The alphabet soup stands for certain Internet technology: Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol and File Transfer Protocol.

SpaceDev trades over the counter as SPDV.
