Deloitte & Touche gives awards to 50 fastest growing

San Diego Fast 50 Majority Are Public: In contrast to the Forbes 200 Best Small Companies, Deloitte & Touche's Fast 50 list of the fastest-growing companies in the county does its ranking based only on revenue growth of the past five years. The companies must have a minimum of $50,000 for the base year, and more than $5 million in sales for the last year.

Also, the companies that made the list must own the intellectual property or proprietary technology that contributes a significant portion of the operating revenue, and be in business at least five years.

This year's Fast 50 list featured 39 public companies and 11 private companies.

The top 10 were: Ethertronics Inc., ESET LLC, Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc., Patriot Scientific Corp., DivX Inc., Kintera Inc., Ilumina Inc., Axesstel Inc., SGX Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Nuvasive Inc.

While the list is dominated by publicly traded technology and biotech companies, the top two firms are privately held.

Ethertronics is a designer and manufacturer of wireless antennas. ESET is a fast-growing provider of security software.
