SAIC pleads guilty to charges of EPA fraud

After a three-year federal probe, La Jolla-based Science Applications International Corp. has pleaded guilty to 10 felony counts of falsifying test data in reports to the Environmental Protection Agency more than five years ago. The company agreed to pay $1.3 million in criminal and civil penalties to close the case.

The charges involved reporting improper test results on water and soil samples taken from toxic waste dumps by one of SAIC's environmental laboratories. SAIC itself reported the fraud to the government in 1986.
