Democrat Printing and Lithographing Company was founded in 1871 as the commercial printing division of the Arkansas Democrat newspaper. The two separated in 1906. Over the next several years, the company prospered and took advantage of changes in technology to become one of the biggest printers in Little Rock.

The company was purchased in 1937 by Parke-Harper Printing Company and the two companies merges using the older name. DP and L diversified in the 1940's and 1950's in several areas including office supplies and furniture, school supplies and equipment and a subsidiary company that was the largest type-setting house in the city. It was from the school supply venture that the company became the largest printer of school supply catalogs.

In 1968, DP and L purchased its first web offset press. This technology was revolutionary in the short to medium run print market and from this grew the companies catalog and magazine business.

In 1973, DP and L opened its new manufacturing facility in the Little Rock River Port and added another web press. The plant has been expanded twice to a size of 126,000 square feet with a today a total of five presses and a host of bindery and mailing equipment. The company made the change from the use of conventional negatives to computer to plate process making the prepress procedure more efficient.

DP and L now offers services including heat-set web printing, sheetfed printing, full bindery and mailing services. More than 90% of our work is processed via online submission and approval. Pre-media and platesetting, upgraded Delano and Apogee as well as Avalon UHF plates. In 2008, the company installed a new Goss Sunday 4000 press which is capable of producing the work of three presses.

Over the last 138 years, DP and L has strived to serve our customers with excellent and attentive service that is second to none.
