THE SCANDAL THAT STRUCK the New York Post--in which a gossip columnist allegedly offered to refrain from writing about a particular billionaire in exchange for a $220,000 payoff--reminded us of an e-mail we received recently from a correspondent we won't identify:
"I'm an extremely private individual and although I would gladly pay you NOT to publish my real estate transactions, I'm aware of your policy--'often requested, never granted.'"
