When Southern Methodist University plays Arkansas State in Jonesboro on Sept. 15, the Mustangs will be making their first appearance in Arkansas since Sept. 19, 1998, when the Arkansas Razorbacks beat the Ponies 44-17 at Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium.
Plans originally were for the SMU game with ASU to be played at War Memorial Stadium as well However, when attendance at last season's Indians game with Oklahoma State fell short of expectations, ASU athletic officials decided playing the game in Jonesboro would be more profitable, according to War Memorial Stadium manager Charlie Staggs. Staggs added that he hasn't heard from ASU officials about returning to War Memorial Stadium.
