Weyerhaeuser Co. said in a filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission that weak market conditions brought about by the housing and construction slowdown would likely force it to close or cut back some of its wood products business. The company has a plywood veneer plant at Emerson and a lumber technology plant at Dierks that fall under its wood products division.
A Georgia-Pacific LLC plywood mill at Gurdon was closed for at least a week because of the slow demand for plywood, affecting about 400 workers.
