Veronica Smith was the hero in a 54-53 home-court win over Brigham Young University, scoring the winning basket from inside the lane with 26 seconds left. Coach Brian Boyer said, "It goes without saying this was a big win for our team." Smith, a sophomore from East St. Louis, Ill., was the team's leading rebounder through four games, putting in nearly five rebounds a game.
But, like the scoring stats, the rebounding was also balanced throughout the lineup. As a team, A-State was outrebounded in the four games by an average of 6.3 rebounds per game.
