Family-Leave Bills Launched WASHINGTON - Proposed family and medical leave bills that would require employers to rehire employees and continue health insurance coverage during their unpaid leave have been reintroduced in the Senate and House. The Senate bill would include employers of 20 or more employees, while the House bill would cover employers of 50 or more.

The House bill also would exempt "key" employees. Both bills include "eldercare" among the family leave provisions. "The idea is simple, the cost is small," Sen. Christopher J. Dodd, D-Conn., chief sponsor of the Senate bill, told a crowded press conference here.
