Insurance Industry Faces Tough Battle On McCarran WASHINGTON--The insurance industry faces a tough battle in Congress to keep the McCarran-Ferguson Act intact, industry representatives believe. "This is the McCarran-Ferguson sweepstakes," according to Paul A. Equale, vice president of government affairs for the Independent Insurance Agents of America, New York.
"Anyone can enter; anyone can win." These comments came soon after two major efforts to repeal or restrict McCarran were launched in the House and the Senate.
