Calif. Agents Blast Ad Campaign The Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of California has criticized a nationwide advertising campaign to improve the image of the property and casualty insurance industry, saying it is based on "flawed, even naive" reasoning. "The Insurance Information Institute has budgeted annual expenditures in the millions of dollars to launch a nationwide ad campaign to improve the industry's image," the San Francisco-based agents' association said in a monthly newsletter for its members.

"We think that may be foolishly spent--certainly in California." A representative for the New York City-based I.I.I., Peter van Aartrijk Jr., defended the Institute's advertising as just one part of a total communications program. He said that...
