PRODUCT LIABILITY REFORM GIVEN GOOD CHANCE TO PASS WASHINGTON--A new, bipartisan product liability reform effort has a good chance of passing the Senate during the 101st Congress, its backers say. "The legislation can pass, and I believe will pass, this Congress," Sen. Bob Kasten, R-Wisc., said at a press conference introducing it.

Sen. Kasten said he is confident that he has a majority of votes on the Senate Commerce Committee for the bill and that he will have the Senate floor votes. The legislation focuses on an expedited settlements procedure which creates incentives for out-of-court settlements.
