DOL Cracks Down On Service Providers SAN DIEGO, Calif.--Once it perceives an abuse of an employee benefit plan, the U.S. Department of Labor has the right to go after "any and all of the abusing pockets," said a DOL official. The entities under the most intense scrutiny by the DOL are the service providers to welfare plans--much more so than the plans themselves, said Sherwin S.

Kaplan, counsel for fiduciary litigation, for the DOL in Washington, D.C. "As is true of every part of the federal government, we have limited resources.
