Exec. Compensation: A Strategic Tool Since the mid- 1980s, executive compensation has emerged as a potent strategic tool for property & casualty insurers. No longer reactive, compensation programs are now structured and fine-turned to drive the implementation of a company's corporate objectives, according to carriers interviewed by the National Underwriter.
With a good annual compensation plan, "the perception is that it does do a good job of focusing people for the year," said Ruth Claussen, director of executive compensation at Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna Life & Casualty.
