Asian Car Firms Hit Over Air Bag Record Washington - Asian car manufacturers are lagging far behind American manufacturers in the move to install air bags in 1990 models, according to a study by three consumer groups. The study - which was conducted by Public Citizen and the Center for Auto Safety, both of Washington, D.C.; and Motor Voters, McLean, Va.

- found that Subaru, Hyundai, Honda, Mazda and Nissan have the worst records on air bags, installing them on only a fraction of their 1990 models. An American manufacturer, Chrysler, was given the highest marks.
