WC Savings Offered By AIG Program Through the addition of a pharmacy preferred provider network and a home health care plan, American International Group Inc. has expanded its program designed to control workers' compensation medical claims costs. The program itself is relatively new, implemented by AIG Risk Management under two years ago.

It incorporates a preferred provider network of approximately 30,000 physicians and 1,500 hospitals and covers 30 states, making it one of the broadest plans in the country. Joe Smetana, chairman of AIG risk management, reports that the program saved a total of $15 million for the clients of the New York City-based carrier in 1989.
