Treasury Department Studies Insurer Finances, Regulation WASHINGTON--The Treasury Department has launched a study of the financial condition and oversight of the insurance industry. The department, which had been asked by Senate Banking Committee Chairman Donald W. Riegle Jr. to conduct such a probe, said in a letter to the senator that it already had an investigation in progress.
