AIA SEES PROGRESS IN FED OVERSIGHT, McCARRAN DEBATE The American Insurance Association is optimistic it can reach an agreement to modify the McCarran-Ferguson Act next year, according to AIA President Robert E. Vagley. Speaking at a press briefing, Mr. Vagley said that only a couple of issues still need to be resolved in negotiations between the Washington-based AIA and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jack Brooks, D-Texas.

Mr. Vagley said that all parties are optimistic that the matter can finally be brought to a close next year. Similarly, he added, AIA is involved in intensive negotiations with House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman John D. Dingell, D-Mich., to develop a proper federal role in solvency regulation.
