While attention centers on Congressional efforts to bring federal regulation to the insurance industry, the insurance companies committee of the New York-based American Institute of Certified Public Accountants is working on a number of projects to provide audit and accounting guidance on insurance matters.

These projects are part of the committee's goal to promote the use of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and reporting practices in the insurance industry.
