Coverage is now available for health care professionals who contract the HIV virus, regardless of whether they get it on the job or elsewhere. The Boston, Mass.-based Lexington Ins. Co. is offering a policy that covers the technical staff of a hospital or health care facility against HIV infection.

The health care professional does not have to contract the virus from a work-related incident in order to be covered, according to Jerry Casper, vice president, health care division, at Lexington Ins. Co., an excess and surplus lines insurer and subsidiary of American International Group.
