Companies and agents are the target of a joint project by Microsoft Corp., Andersen Consulting and Sterling Wentworth Corp. to build an integrated, client-server platform for the life insurance industry. Called Solutions for Life Insurance Enterprise Computing (SLIEC), the initiative will be based on the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems.

Plans are also in the works for a similar project directed at the property/casualty business, a Microsoft representative said.
