TO THE EDITOR: In a recent "Another Perspective," University of Wisconsin Sociology Professor Gregory Squires suggested that insurance redlining practices exist in Milwaukee and other major cities and are causing deterioration of those communities. (See NU, Nov. 22, 1993, page 15.) While I am not familiar with the rest of the country, I know something about the availability and affordability of homeowners insurance in Milwaukee, and wish that Professor Squires would have examined the data before he made his claim.
The fundamental fact is that Milwaukee has moved past the rhetoric of redlining and moved toward making certain that homeowners insurance is both available and affordable to those who live in our state's largest city. To suggest that the...
