Although new accounting treatment had a significant impact on financial reinsurance and other non-traditional structures this past year, true to its reputation for innovation the industry has come back with products meeting the new rules. However, additional accounting constraints on the already curtailed multi-year financial reinsurance structures may be forthcoming.
Financial reinsurance has become less of a stand-alone product as a result of accounting and regulatory scrutiny, with its elements being more widely incorporated into all reinsurance contracts, say participants in the industry.
