Senate scales back bill to reform tort system.

WASHINGTON--Tort reform advocates are expressing some disappointment the U.S. Senate scaled back a broad tort reform proposal, but are still applauding a product liability reform bill which the Senate approved last week "It is a step in the right direction," said Barry Bauman, executive director of the Washington-based Lawyers for Civil Justice, which is comprised of defense attorneys.

"Certainly, for many of our members, it is not as far as they would like to go," Mr. Bauman said. "But it is a good, positive step."
