Corporate America is discovering financial and finite-risk insurance products. Financial reinsurance techniques which have been used so successfully by primary insurers to cap liability, smooth out losses and manage their balance sheets in numerous ways appear to be increasingly accepted and in demand by corporations which self-insure, operate captives or otherwise use the alternative risk funding markets, say purveyors of the financial insurance products.
