David P. Duden doesn't think he'll need to don a white lab coat in order to test risk management information systems. But he does think the major forms of RMIS are "all starting to look the same." And he's planning to have a "laboratory" set up and running in July which will help him - and the risk managers he consults with - pick out the differences among systems.

Mr. Duden, national RMIS practice leader for Deloitte & Touche LLP in Hartford, Conn., sees the lab as "a benefit to risk managers evaluating systems," a central location that will provide "an opportunity to get through the sales and smoke-and-mirrors-type stuff and get down to the real application" of software.
