Y2K Bill Stalled In Senate.

Legislation aimed at easing liability concerns arising from the Year 2000 computer bug advanced last week in the House of Representatives but appears stalled in the Senate. The House Judiciary Committee last week approved by a 15-14 vote a Y2K bill that included limitations on punitive damage awards.

Melissa Sheik, assistant vice president with the Washington-based American Insurance Association, said that the House bill could reach the floor this week. But in the Senate, a modified bill sponsored by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was pulled off the floor after a motion to limit debate on the measure failed.
