In pointed remarks that could just as easily have been aimed at the insurance industry instead of the business technology community at large, Hewlett-Packard's chief executive officer, Carly Fiorina, criticized developers of proprietary systems, characterizing their work as "medieval." The remarks came in a keynote address here at Comdex Fall 2000, the mammoth national computer show and conference.
