WHILE TODAY'S DOCUMENT management systems focus on documents in electronic form, agencies and most other businesses still have to deal with at least some documentation in the form of paper. But technology has an answer there, too. Hardware vendors continue to produce devices that not only facilitate paper-based output and distribution, but also bridge the gap between paper and electronic documents by leveraging the advances of computer technology.

For example, Canon U.S.A. Inc. recently introduced its new FAXPHONE L170 Laser Fax/Printer, which provides fax, copying and high-speed laser printing in a compact design aimed at small offices.
